Book Review: Hello World! Computer Programming for Kids and Other Beginners
I bought this book to introduce my son to programming. I had read a couple of reviews online and looked forward to this book after I bought it online. It arrived in a couple of days, and I eagerly opened it.
This is an excellent book for anyone who is new to programming and wants to learn. The language is very easy to follow for someone who hasn't done any programming. There are plenty of diagrams, example programs and humorous references that make it really easy to learn programming concepts.
Even though this book teaches programming in Python, it covers programming concepts, good practices and conventions in a generic way that applies to programming in general.
"Hello World!" starts with very simple program examples, and encourages the reader to try modifying the programs and experiment with them. Later chapters cover fairly advanced concepts like modules, object-oriented programming and game programming.
I have been using other languages like C/C++, Perl and hardware design languages for over 20 years, but hadn't really ventured to write big programs with Python. After I got this book, I spent a couple of days to play with Python, and I know why has been such a popular language over the years.
